August integration

Self check-in without changing your door.

Your existing deadbolt, running guest access on its own.

August turns the deadbolt you already own into a smart lock; ProhostAI turns that smart lock into a check-in system — one code per booking, sent to the guest, expired at checkout.

Overview

August’s whole pitch is that you don’t replace anything. The lock fits over the thumb-turn on the inside of the door, your existing keys keep working, and the outside of the door looks exactly as your HOA, landlord or historic-district board expects. For condos, apartments and buildings where swapping the deadbolt isn’t an option, that’s often the only route to keyless entry.

What August doesn’t do is watch your booking calendar — and that’s the part that eats time. Connect your August app account to ProhostAI and every reservation gets its own guest code, valid from shortly before check-in until checkout. Pair the lock with an August Smart Keypad and guests punch in a code that, where possible, is simply the last four digits of their own phone number.

From there the loop closes by itself. The code rides into your scheduled messages and the digital guidebook through a template variable; if the dates move, the validity window moves while the digits stay the same, and a cancellation removes the code entirely. One PIN covers every lock on the stay, so a building door and an apartment door never need two codes.

The August WiFi Smart Lock has WiFi built in, so there’s no extra hub — sign in, assign the lock to a listing, and the next booking runs keyless.

What ProhostAI can do with August

Connect your August account, assign locks to listings, and this is what runs without you:

Guest access

  • A code that exists only for the stayEach booking mints its own code with a window built from the reservation — live shortly before check-in, removed after checkout, never lingering on the keypad.
  • The guest’s own digits, when possibleWhere supported, the code is the last four digits of the guest’s phone number, falling back to a safe random code if those digits are taken or unavailable.“Your entry code is the last 4 digits of your phone number: 5518.”
  • Keys and app access untouchedBecause August is a retrofit, your physical keys, your own app access and any codes you created yourself keep working exactly as before.

Automation

  • Mid-stay door control in the guidebookEnable it and guests can lock and unlock the August lock from their digital guidebook during the stay — rate-limited, and only on the devices you’ve allowed.
  • Bookings and codes stay in lockstepDate changes shift the code’s validity window; cancellations remove the code. Rebooked weekends never leave orphaned codes behind.
  • Offline locks don’t fail silentlyEvery code change is confirmed by the lock. If an August lock is unreachable or the battery is flat, the failed attempt is tracked and surfaced in time to act.

How to connect August

Connecting August is a browser flow that takes a few minutes:

  1. 1In ProhostAI, open Smart Devices and choose Connect account.
  2. 2Pick August in the secure connection window and sign in with your August app account.
  3. 3Your August locks appear as devices with battery and connection status.
  4. 4Assign each lock to its listing and name it the way a guest would say it (Apartment door, Building entrance).
  5. 5Codes for upcoming reservations are created, delivered and expired automatically from then on.

Good to know

Guest entry codes need a keypad on the door — pair your August lock with the August Smart Keypad so guests have something to type into.

The August WiFi Smart Lock connects with its built-in WiFi; earlier models reach the internet through an August Connect bridge. If the lock has remote access in your August app, it can be managed.

ProhostAI only manages the reservation codes it creates — everything else on the lock, including your keys, stays yours.

Connected devices are a paid add-on billed per device, and the sign-in is OAuth-style: ProhostAI never sees your August password.

August integration FAQ

Yes. Sign in with your August app account and ProhostAI issues a per-reservation guest code, delivers it in your check-in messages and guidebook, and removes it after checkout.

Yes — the lock itself mounts on the inside of the door, so guests need the August Smart Keypad on the outside to enter their code. With the keypad paired, codes work like on any keypad lock.

Yes. August retrofits over your existing deadbolt, so the original keyway stays. Guests normally use their code, but a key always works as backup.

Yes. Ask your AI employee and it can report a stay’s code, generate one, or lock and unlock the door — every action is rate-limited and logged with who requested it, and codes are never disclosed for cancelled or past bookings.

Code programming is tracked through to confirmation, so an offline lock or dead battery shows up as a surfaced failure and you’re alerted. Attempts retry automatically — including the moment the lock comes back online — so you find out before the guest is standing at the door, not after.
