A supplier cost gets recorded when it is incurred, an owner invoice raised from what actually happened, and a question about the accounts answered without opening them. The books stay current because keeping them current stopped being a separate task — and for an operator who is also the bookkeeper, that is the difference between numbers you can steer by and numbers you assemble once a quarter for somebody else.
